Anthony,

You're dead on when you point out that many people read up on body language and then make the wrong interpretation. Body language after all, is not a precise science nor can you make a determination from a single gesture, expression or posture. One needs to look for clusters that indicate a certain action, thought or intent and even then you are talking about probabilities rather than certainties.

That being said there is tremendous value in knowing how to align our nonverbal messages with our verbal messages so we can communicate better and on how to detect possible deception and misdirection in others. As with any persuasive or influential art one needs to understand the limitations of the process.

As you well know, many people read up on body language and take what they learn and totally misread people. So many things have to be considered and that is best left to our other than conscious mind.

However, I can verify the dancing feet tip! When I am happy and my lovely other is too, our feet dance. That was one of the first things I noticed about her. When she was happy, her feet were dancing to the music in her head.

As far as shoes go, I am in South Florida now and everyone is wearing flip flops. Also, people read up on body language and use it to affect others perceptions of them. They have access to great shoes or clothing for low prices so they go out and buy what they think will work. Often, you can tell because they look awkward anyway.

This stuff can be tricky. I tend to automatically notice several things at once and generally do not care when I don't need to care.

I find this topic to be very very interesting because it is so complex!

Man I am glad I don't watch TV!

Steve, I agree. We all make mistakes in life and deserve a second chance but ultimately, it sucks to get caught. I can't imagine what it would be like to have my deepest personal transgressions and/or socially undesirable behaviors in the public eye and have it be news every day, all day long.

He will be flying the straight and narrow until the pain of it all runs its course. Then we shall see. I have worked with inmates and the pain and shame are legit and more powerful than the conditioning for a period of time.

After a while, depending on what motivates the person, the intensity lessens and the conditioning gains its strength back. It is during that time when the impulses are under control and temporarily neutralized that one must "do their work" and "get their help." Carve those new neural pathways while the old ones are temporarily out of service!

Hopefully for his own sense of worth and his family's well being, he will have gotten more in touch with his HEART and seriously neutralized whatever it is within that motivated him to do what he did before his shadow starts having more influence.

If it was safe to be honest and he had the balls, he could have just said, "Their are many ways to express one's sexuality. I really like to have lots sex with lots of women. That is just something I enjoy and that my position in life enables. I realize that in the context of my profession and marriage that that is not healthy or skillful, so I am choosing my career and marriage." But our society could not handle such honesty and he has a team of fiscally motivated advisors telling him how to handle this.

It would be wonderful if he is really, really sorry for betraying his wife and kids and wanted to, FROM HIS HEART, show her that he loves her and wants a life with her. I guess we will find out. Not that I will be watching.

I wish him and his family well

Comment on Sharpening the saw- Do you stay current in your profession by Anthony Lemme

I think they'd be happier and more fulfilled in general as well. Too many people are locked into external rewards and so when they get them, they become complacent. A person who is internally motivated will automatically sharpen their saw for the shear learning and creative aspects of it. Those are the people who stand the test of time and create new and better ways of doing and being.

I guess if a person's job was more algorithmic that would be okay but todays jobs (the ones that can't easily be exported) are more heuristic and require us to sharpen our saws. Again, the one's who will do the best in the long run will sharpen for internal reason. We are moving from left brain work to right brain work and have to reward ourselves differently.

So true and all we have to do is start paying attention...starting with ourselves and our body language. A moment ago I realized I was slumping in my chair at my desk and adjusted my posture. I feel much better and if someone were around to see, they'd say I look better as well. Stronger, more focused and confident in what I am doing. Great way to illustrate your point.

Shocker stats!! There are better ways to pay for entertainment than to go to College. Like an extended stay in Thailand - without the high accommodation costs. As always the masses are the last to catch on...if they ever do.

Hi Steve,

congratulations on being contacted by the CBS affiliate. What an honor and so gratifying to have your body language expertise recognized and sought out.

Yes, I have to agree. We discussed the situation a bit when I was on Las Vegas radio 2 weeks ago. So much of how he is coming across is that he is sorry to have been caught. No contrition.

And I find it interesting that having chosen to be a spokesman for so many products that he somehow oesn't grasp that actually it is the public's business, as well as the business of all his corporate sponsors.

Hi Steve,

Indeed, having a college degree used to actually mean something. However, with the great preponderance of Americans acquiring a degree, it has diluted the value of a bachelors degree. Street smarts and a track record help. College kids who pursue work and internships while still in college are great.
